#WATF Meet: Social Media Guru Nicole

Welcome back yet again! We’re here for our third instalment of my series #WomenAreTheFuture. Today we’re meeting Nicole! Nicole is a social media coordinator for Discovery Canada. Read on to learn about her job, her motivations and why she loves working in social media.

What’s your current position? How long have you been in this position? Can you give me a brief overview of what it is you do in your work?

I currently work full time as a social media coordinator at Discovery Canada aka Discovery channel! I’ve been in this position for a little over 2 years now! I manage the Discovery Canada social media pages (ie Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram) and as well help assist in promotions of all our shows! 

What would you say most motivates you to do what you do? 

I never thought I’d be working in the world of journalism (what I got my degree in) so it’s pretty motivating to know that I am already building my career in the industry at such a young age. 

What are you most excited or passionate about?  

My biggest passions in life are health and fitness. A bit different than journalism I would say!! I found these two passions about a year ago while I’ve been on my personal health and fitness journey. I get to express that passion through my YouTube channel and my blog, so it’s really fun to create and share! I also am currently studying to be a personal trainer so that’ll be another exciting adventure! 
4.What are the goals you most want to accomplish in your work? Not so much the goals that are in your job description, but the goals you hold personally?

What would you tell your younger self?

To care less about what people think, and to focus on myself. 

What’s your version of self-care? How do you unwind and recharge?

I try to practice little ways of self care every day. Whether it be to relax and put a face mask on, or to slow down and do 30 minutes of yoga instead of a 30 minute cardio session! It’s all about listening to my body and mind and what I need in those moments. 

What’s something that most people don’t know about you, but you wish they did?

That I truly want health and fitness to be simple for everyone and that’s what I’m trying to accomplish with my channel. I’m not looking to be famous or make money, I truly just want to share my own knowledge and share experts’ knowledge to help others! 
What are your overall thoughts on social media?

As a social media coordinator, I’m always on social media. Like all day every day. So I do love it, but of course there are times where I just want to run away from it all because it’s just a bit much. I am notorious for taking long social media breaks (I took one from Snapchat about 2 years ago and never looked back). I think it’s important to take a step back and remember that social media is just a highlight reel of what picture what you to see, it’s not all real. But it does allow us to share and connect with so many like minded people. It’s definitely a love-hate relationship.
