How I Combat Dry Winter Skin

I am a very impatient person so testing out skincare products can be a bit of a nightmare. Nothing and I mean NOTHING is instantaneous. When you’re trying to combat a skin woe you must have patience with your products.

That doesn’t mean that there aren’t a few superhero products that work in as little as 48 hours πŸ˜‰ And I have a few I’m about to share with you that really put in WORK on my dry winter skin.

Let me preface this post by telling you a mini skin story. For the last three weeks I’ve been dealing with some super dry, irritated and inflamed skin. I put the blame on my time of the month, travelling and a wee bit of stress. I decided to get a facial so that a professional could tell me what the heck I was doing wrong in my skincare routine and what I can do to combat my sore skin.

So what was I doing wrong? I was using too many acids way too often. My complexion was great! But the lipids in my skin had diminished significantly and my skin wasn’t retaining moisture. So, it was time take a break from my beloved AHA’s.

Thus, I went on a little shopping date to Sephora & Amazon and picked up some hydrating goodies. After two days of using these beauties my skin has SIGNIFICANTLY changed and now looks more plump, hydrated and dewy. Here’s what I’ve been using:

DISCLAIMER: none of these images are my own.

Weleda Skin Food: This is a cult favourite and a dry skin go-to since 1926!! This is basically a do-everything cream with viola tricolor, calendula and chamomile in a thick base of oils and beeswax. I apply this very generously at night almost like a nighttime hydrating mask. I wake up with literally baby soft skin and no dry spots. This stuff is incredible and super affordable. I bought mine here on Amazon!

Caudalie Overnight Recovery Oil: I had never heard of this product before. I’m a huge fan of Caudalie, they truly do skincare like no other. This is an oil that you use overnight as a reparative treatment for super super dry skin. It helps your skin barrier repair, which will overtime allow your skin to retain moisture. It’s ingredients include: grape seed oil, jojoba oil, rose essential oil and palmarosa essential oil. All of these oils help soothe and repair. This oil has been my saviour. I use this before the weleda skin food and this little pairing has been an absolute dream. I bought mine at Sephora!

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Oat & Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil: This is a newbie to First Aid Beauty’s product line. I find this new ingredient (cannabis oil) super interesting. It does wonder for skin that is inflamed, acne-prone and sore. This is a dry oil so I use it under my daily moisturizer. My makeup has never looked better than it does over this oil. It doesn’t have an odd smell and feels super refreshing on my skin. The main ingredient are cannabis sativa seed oil, colloidal oatmeal and arnica montana flower extract. If you suffer from eczema this oil is a must-have! I bought mine at Sephora.

Sometimes less is more when it comes to skin woes. I know that for me the most simple of skincare routines usually garners the best results. Let me know if any of you try these products πŸ™‚ I would love to know your opinions! I also love product recommendations so let me know in the comments what your dry-skin favourites are.

As always, thank you for reading.
