In the wonderland that is Instagram I find myself scrolling for hours chasing inspiration and searching for my next beauty binge. I think most of us can admit that we’ve had a moment of weakness where Instagram made us buy into a products claims. From jade rollers that promise a slimmer face come morning to hair vitamins promoted by extension-wearing bachelor contestants I have truly bought into Instagram product hype.
However, sometimes Instagram hype is REAL hype. These two products I’m about to share with you are two that I bought purely because of their branding on social media. I had little to no expectations on either because I had been let down so many times before by claims of baby skin and acne relief. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that these two cutie gems really did live up to the hype and now they have a permanent place on my bathroom counter and my Sephora favourites list.
Let’s start with the little blue tube of magic that is Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask – $59 CAD
First of all I just want to say that I love Marianna Hewitt as a person and as a blogger. She is truly a #GirlBoss and I buy pretty much every beauty product she recommends.
Secondly, I knew right away when she launched her debut product and brand Summer Fridays that this was going to be a skin game-changer. She’s incredibly knowledgable when it comes to skincare ingredients. This puppy is filled with vitamins, ceramides, antioxidants and gently exfoliating extracts.
It has Chestnut Extract, which activates a natural exfoliating process to help dull skin look radiant and as if you’ve slept 8+ hours.
It also has Vitamin C, which is the BEST antioxidant when it comes to brightening the skin. Vitamin C also draws moisture to the skin aiding in hydration.
And my favourite ingredient of them all… Niacinamide, which is the secret to reducing pores, treating uneven skin and filling in fine lines. It also helps heal acne!
I slather a heavy layer of this on overnight when my skin feels like it needs an extra oomph. I wake up in the morning and the effects are truly incredible. ONE USE and my skin already looks plump, hydrated and awake. I also love using this mask under my eyes when I haven’t slept enough. I put a heavy layer on for about 10-15 minutes and then massage the rest into my under eyes with my ring finger. My eyes instantly look brighter, more awake and plump! I’ve never been able to find a product that works instantly to transform my under eyes. This product is now a staple in my skincare routine.
Next I want to talk about this sweet lavender night oil Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate – $86 CAD
I’ve gone through many a night time oils but nothing has ever made me take a second glance like this lavender baby has.
Let me preface this by stating that Kiehl’s does skincare like no other. You cannot go wrong with a skincare routine that has multiple Kiehl’s products in it (I now have three in mine!). Again, I stumbled across this via Instagram. It was posted as a paid ad by a blogger. Normally paid ad’s draw my attention away. But for some reason this little bottle caught my eye. I loved the claims, I really loved the ingredients and I was smitten with the ‘apothecary’ theme.
Evening Primrose, which repairs the skin barrier and boosts radiance.
Lavender Essential Oil (My FAV!), which soothes inflamed or irritated skin and reduces blotchiness to promote an even and bright skin tone.
Squalane, which is a signature ingredient by Kiehl’s and is a botanical that restores the skin’s natural moisture balance to keep it super supple and hydrated.
At night after I cleanse I massage two-three drops of this precious oil into my skin. The smell is incredible and definitely helps me get ready for bed. It absorbs really well so you aren’t left looking super greasy. It’s helped clear up my acne and get rid of the dry patches I sometimes get on my cheeks. Also, a little goes a long way. I know it’s pricey but the 50ml bottle has lasted me 10 months and I use this bad boy every single night!
Sometimes an Instagram hyped product really is everything people claim it is. Skincare is all about trial and error. I’m went through a lot of frogs before finding these prince’s!
