Haircare Routine For Dry & Damaged Hair

Canadian winters are so harsh on my hair and skin so I’m always looking for great repairing and conditioning products to combat the -22 temps. It probably doesn’t help that I bleach my hair as well so come October-April I need products that will do THE MOST.

This year I think I’ve found some of the best products yet for combating the winter blues! I also recently got tape-in hair extensions (do you guys want a blog post about them?) so I needed some products that would really transform my dry locks.

And here they are! My winter moisturizing babies.

STEP ONE – Detangle, Hydrate & Prep

Let’s start with what I use right when I get out of the shower: Ouai’s Leave In Conditioner – $32 CAD

As soon as I get out of the shower I towel dry my hair and spray this leave-in conditioner all over. This product is interesting because it’s a multitasking styler, which is great if you want to simplify your haircare routine and have one product that has multiple uses. It detangles, manages frizz, nourishes dry ends and leaves your hair smooth and shiny post blow-dry. If you purchase anything from this blog post I recommend it be this!

STEP TWO – Protect & Perfect

Now because I am a beauty hoarder I tend to have really long routines. So, this next step is optional but, like I said above, I NEED all the extra hydration I can get to take care of my extensions and battle the damage from the Canadian winter temps.

My second step is this little hidden gem: The Briogeo Blow Dry Perfection Heat Protectant Creme -$30 CAD

After I brush out my hair using my holy grail wet brush I then go in with this INSANELY DELICIOUS SMELLING pre-blow dry creme. This. Stuff. Is. Incredible. It smells like vacation because it’s main ingredients are rosehip, argan and coconut oils. Other than leaving my hair smelling beachy it also protects from heat styling of up to 425 degrees fahrenheit. It’s silicone free and leaves your hair feeling super weightless after blow drying. I’ve been loving this product so much that I went ahead and ordered a bunch of other Briogeo products off of Sephora – so stay tuned for a blog post about this brand!

STEP THREE – Tame & Nourish

Again, this is not a necessary step but my hair is super dry from bleaching it so I like to make sure that even post-blow dry I keep it looking healthy and shiny.

So cue step three! One of my favourite steps. I think most of you blondes can relate when I say it’s super difficult keeping our hair looking shiny without it being greasy. I’ve gone through too many hair oils to count and have yet to find something that is ultra hydrating and shine-enhancing but weightless. UNTIL I found this sweet smelling cutie: Ouai’s Rose Hair & Body Oil – $42 CAD

I’m a major fan of oils in both my hair and skincare routine. This little cutie pie fell into my lap totally by accident but I’m so happy she did! This is the most weightless yet nourishing oil I have ever found. It’s pricy for sure but a little but goes a long way and it can also be used on your body so really you’re getting two products in one! It smells super luxurious and lingers on your hair – I can’t even tell you how many compliments I’ve received on my “perfume” when really it’s just this. I use this on my dry hair after I style it to add some shine and hydration. It’s full of nutrients and is fast-absorbing. This is a definite must for anyone who has extremely damaged hair from colouring!

Side note – Ouai just released actual fragrances. There are four and they all have the scents of various products in their line. Highly recommend checking them out here!

The final step! If you’re still here reading this post good for you. I know I can go on a bit of a tangent when it comes to discussing beauty products but I can’t help it!

I found this product via instagram. I was looking for something similar to a dry shampoo that I could spray in my hair to give it some life when I’ve hit day three of no washing. This is truly an innovative product: IGK’s Thirsty Girl Coconut Milk Leave-In Conditioner – $34 CAD

This is an interesting product because it can be used on both dry and wet hair. I use this as a dry conditioner. I only wash my hair twice a week so in-between washes I really need something to revive my locks and add some moisture to my style while also taming my frizzy pieces. I spray this from about mid-length to ends. It has a delicious coconut scent and gives my hair an instant refresh! I also love IGK’s product names and packaging. They are a really quirky brands and have some incredible styling products – I highly recommend trying their dry shampoo’s as well!

And that completes my post-shower haircare routine! If you’ve made it to the end of this post thank you so much for reading. Stay tuned for some more routines and reviews. If you have any questions or request please reach out to me on social media or leave a comment.
